Trump: There is ‘excellent alternative’ to trade deal
United States President Donald Trump said on Thursday he came up with an “excellent alternative” to a trade deal after receiving a letter from his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.
“He just wrote me a beautiful letter, I just received it, and I’ll probably speak to him by phone,” Trump told reporters just 12 hours before new tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods are set to go into place. “We have two great alternatives, we’ll see,” he explained before adding “but our alternative is an excellent one.”
President Trump’s initial remarks were unclear on who came up with the “alternative.”
Earlier, Trump told supporters at a rally in Florida he moved forward with hikes on Chinese imports because Beijing “broke the deal.”

The president said Xi’s letter expressed a desire to come to an agreement. “Let’s work together, let’s get something done,” Trump said, describing the letter.
The president said it might be possible for China and the U.S. to strike a deal this week. “It’s possible to do it, they’re all here. The vice premier one of the most respected men one of the highest officials in China is coming,” he said.
China’s Vice Premier Liu He, the highest-profile member of the Chinese delegation, is set to dine with Trump’s trade team Thursday evening, just a few hours before the deadline Trump set to slap a new round of tariffs on $200 billion in Chinese goods. U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer is set to attend, along with other U.S. officials.

US raises tariffs on Chinese goods to 25%
The United States officially hiked tariffs on $200 billion worth of goods coming from China after the latest round of trade negotiations started yesterday in Washington. The punitive measures affect over 5,700 categories of Chinese goods, including food and electric appliances. However, the increased tariffs will not apply to goods shipped before Friday, a notice published in the US Trade Representative’s Federal Register said.
As negotiations are set to continue today, Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping are expected to hold a phone conversation on the issue. Recent reports indicated that Chinese Vice Premier Liu He said that “there is nothing more he can do” and left it for the two leaders to try to reach an agreement.
Meanwhile, Liu met with US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer without the title “special envoy,” suggesting that he was not authorized by President Xi to make any large concessions to the other side in the negotiations.

we will buy agricultural products from our Great Farmers, in larger amounts than China ever did, and ship it to poor & starving countries in the form of humanitarian assistance. In the meantime we will continue to negotiate with China in the hopes that they do not again try to redo deal! .If we bought 15 Billion Dollars of Agriculture from our Farmers, far more than China buys now, we would have more than 85 Billion Dollars left over for new Infrastructure, Healthcare, or anything else. China would greatly slow down, and we would automatically speed up!

Tariffs will make our Country MUCH STRONGER, not weaker. Just sit back and watch! In the meantime, China should not renegotiate deals with the U.S. at the last minute. This is not the Obama Administration, or the Administration of Sleepy Joe, who let China get away with “murder!”
