China: Trade deal talks with US in full swing
Chinese Commerce Ministry stated on Thursday that the negotiations on a deal that would end the months-long trade dispute with the United States are in “full swing.” The ministry added that both sides have achieved progress in a series of phone calls, but stressed that there “remains much work to do.”
According to some reports, China has offered the US a series of “unprecedented proposals” on a range of issues that have so far prevented a deal from being made, including the problem of forced tech transfers.

Mnuchin: Constructive trade talks in Beijing concluded
United States Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin stated on Friday that he and US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer concluded a “constructive” round of trade talks with their Chinese counterparts in Beijing. Mnuchin also noted that the next round of talks aimed at reaching a trade deal with China will resume next week in Washington, with Chinese Vice Premier Liu He leading Beijing’s delegation.
Meanwhile, an earlier report suggested that the two sides are working on the final details of the trade agreement that should be put before presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping at a potential signing ceremony. It was also reported that Chinese state companies purchased around 1.4 million tons of US soybeans for delivery in July-August, marking the first major sale of American soy to China since March 7.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer held meetings in Beijing Friday partly to ensure there were no discrepancies in the English and Chinese-language versions of the text, and also to balance the number of working visits to each capital, according to the officials, who asked not to be identified because the talks aren’t public.
