(Adds details, company news; updates market snapshot) PARIS, Jan 28 (Reuters) – European stocks were poised to rise on Wednesday,
tracking a rally on Wall Street as reassuring corporate results calmed investor
fears over company profits. Spreadbetters were looking for London’s FTSE .FTSE to open up 30 to 32
points, or as much as 0.8 percent, Frankfurt’s DAX .GDAXI to gain 30 to 53
points, or as much as 1.2 percent, and Paris’s CAC 40 .FCHI to add 41 to 47
points, or as much as 1.6 percent in early trade. The focus on Wednesday will be on the outcome of a U.S. Federal Reserve
meeting. The central bank has already slashed interest rates to nearly zero and
is looking for other tools to revive economic growth. Investors’ attention will also be on results from SAP (SAPG.DE), Novartis
(NOVN.VX) and Standard Life (SL.L), while on the other side of the Atlantic,
results are expected from a flurry of companies such as Starbucks (SBUX.O), AT&T
(T.N), ConocoPhillips (COP.N) and Boeing (BA.N). European stocks inched higher on Tuesday, as Siemens (SIEGn.DE) calmed
investors’ fears over corporate results, offsetting grim U.S. consumer
confidence data. The FTSEurofirst 300 .FTEU3 index of top European shares is
down 5.6 percent so far this month, hit by dismal macroeconomic data as well as
renewed fears over banks’ balance sheets.
