SNB Refuses To Identify Bank Using FX Swaps, Says "Repo Already Unwound"

More on the biggest market moving story from last night. According to a blast from Bloomberg, minutes ago SNB spokesman Werner Abegg announced that a bank sought USD through the SNB FX swap with the FRBNY, via a repo operation. Abegg added that the repo has already been unwound. But, but, it was only $200 million so what’s the big deal? There is no stigmata to micro amounts… Oh wait there is stigmata to any amounts. And sorry, this is just the first of many times that not only the SNB but all other central banks will very soon be scrambling to the Fed to bail out their dollar collateral short banks. Unfortunately, the 2008 redux is only just starting.

U petak je options expiry za zlato i srebro, što znači da će nakon toga ići malo žešći odbijanac UP, a to može biti i u četvrtak i u petak.

Well, it looks like an option expiration week to me.
I pulled my ‘defensive positions’ in the metals today (short positions), and came out of ‘flat’ to stick a toe into the gold and silver markets in terms of both metals and a couple of miners that looked rather oversold intraday.
You should be able to spot the support on the chart. That *might* hold, but we may not have a bottom in yet. A lot of it is going to depend on what Benny has to say tomorrow. I have not shorted stocks yet, although the temptation was on the table today. Maybe tomorrow. I was performing useful, real world activities for much of the day.
Those wild and crazy free market capitalists and Wall Street welfare queens want another central bank handout, and might toss a tantrum if they don’t get it. I don’t expect Ben to actually DO anything tomorrow, but he might drop some hints about playing games with the longer end of the curve.

This is getting very, very interesting. Apparently, there is an “anonymous” someone who is heavily shorting SVM, claiming that it is a fraudulent company. Now, we all know that there has been quite a few Chinese frauds going around (Sino-Forest, anyone?). However – why is this someone doing this anonymously? Hmmh? On the other hand I may be wrong, and then I’ll pay a hefty sum for it.
Fireworks started in the premarket, where SVM got a smackdown of -10%. After the opening it did a mad rally (short covering?). I have to tell you, the action in the last couple of days have smelled REALLY bad of “trapped short”. Apparently the short position is now 23 million shares, or 13% of outstanding shares. And yesterday, margins were hiked for trading this share. Regardless of which way it goes, its going to be explosive as heck!
