Soon after coming out of retirement to take the job at the behest of AIG’s government-approved board after the political pressure became too much for Mr Liddy (pictured below), Mr Benmosche retreated to his Croatian villa for a holiday with his family that had been arranged beforehand. But ……………even while still there he began attacking AIG’s detractors.
For the rest of his strategy to work out, Mr Benmosche has to hope that AIG’s insurance operations perform, buyers of non-core businesses come forward and politicians hold their nerve and curb their rhetoric.
Unlike his much-anticipated first zinfandel, Mr Benmosche will have to wait a long time to find out whether what he is planting at AIG will be something worth celebrating.

Now 65, and charged with arguably the toughest task in corporate America – keeping AIG afloat while finding some $80bn (£50bn, €56bn) to repay US taxpayers and free the insurer from government ownership – Mr Benmosche has lost none of his youthful feistiness.

Sve o bankama !
In the December 21 issue, Barron’s writes that Citigroup Inc (C.N), Bank of America Corp (BAC.N), JPMorgan (JPM.N), and Wells Fargo & Co (WFC.N) all look appealing following a rough period for banking stocks.
The article says that outlook is "based on ‘normalized earnings’ they might earn, starting in 2012, and their stock-price/tangible-book-value ratios."
Of the four, it said "JPMorgan may have the clearest path to higher profits, the strongest management and one of the industry’s best business mixes" and may be the first of them to boost its dividend in 2010.
It said that Citigroup is the riskiest of the group, citing its weaker profit outlook in the near term "and the challenge of its good-bank/bad-bank strategy."
