Ovi PBZ skrbnici; jesu to marginasi?

Bulker boom to continue this year
By Marcus Hand in Singapore – Friday 29 February 2008
The dry bulk shipping boom helped to nearly treble STX Pan Ocean net profits last year.
STX Pan Ocean expects the dry bulk shipping market will continue to boom in 2008.
The Singapore-listed shipowner said that it was confident of the underlying demand and supply fundamentals of the shipping industry, and the dry bulk market would continue its “supercycle” .
“Despite iron ore shipment delays in early 2008 and continued concerns over a US economic recession, we see China-led factors that point to a market recovery,” said Lee Jong Chul, vice chairman and president of STX Pan Ocean.
“In the short-term, these include China accelerating its import of iron ore to recover the deficit caused by the shipment delays and, with 78% of China’s power supply generated by coal powerplants, its urgent need for steaming coal to weather the country’s worst snow storms in 50 years,” he added.
The company noted that Clarkson’s forecast China would import 430m tonnes of iron ore in 2008, 12% more than last year and that current levels of port congestion were anticipated to continue till 2010.
Commenting on the demand and supply of dry bulk tonnage Mr Lee said: “STX believes that dry bulk demand-supply will remain balanced in 2008 with no unexpected supply growth. In fact, there are even some signs of delays in dry bulk vessel deliveries from the lack of technology in some start-up shipyards in China and the recent rapid increase in steel plate prices.”
The dry bulk shipping boom helped to nearly treble STX Pan Ocean’s net profits in 2007 to $497m. Dry bulk shipping accounted for the vast majority of the company’s $5.8bn in revenues with sales of $5.3bn from this business
