Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (Vale), the world’s largest iron ore producer, concluded the iron ore price negotiations for 2008 with Ilva S.p.A. (Ilva), the largest Italian steelmaker. As an outcome of these negotiations, the iron ore prices for Southern System fines (SSF), FOB Tubarão, increased by 65% relatively to 2007, while the price for Carajás iron ore fines (SFCJ), FOB Ponta da Madeira, increased by 66% relatively to 2007.
Therefore, the new reference prices per dry metric ton Fe unit for 2008 are US$ 1.3441 for SSF and US$ 1.4060 for SFCJ. The magnitude of the price increase for 2008 reflects the continuity of very tight conditions still prevailing in the global iron ore market. The iron ore price settlement with large high-quality companies and traditional customers such Ilva is an evidence of our commitment to the benchmark pricing system, respecting the weight of the long-term relationship and trust involved in these negotiations. Vale reinforces its commitment with customers, investing a substantial amount of resources in increasing production capacity. Despite the sharp rise of investment and operational costs, the Company has managed to expand iron ore production at an average annual rate of 14.1%, between 2001 and 2007. Currently, we are developing projects to add new capacity of high quality iron ore to meet our client needs, aiming to reach a production capacity of 450 million metric tons per year by the end of 2012, which will require substantial investment in new mines and the enlargement of our railroad and port infrastructure.

Japan, the world’s fourth-largest energy consumer, increased coal imports at the fastest pace in four months in January to meet higher demand from power plants after an earthquake shut seven nuclear reactors last year. Coal imports rose for a seventh month, by 14.3 percent, to 17.7 million metric tons in January, according to a trade report released today by the Ministry of Finance. Oil imports gained for a fourth month.
Demand for coal, crude oil and natural gas has risen as Tokyo Electric Power Co. and other regional utilities increased thermal power output to compensate for lower nuclear electricity generation. Tokyo Electric has kept its Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear plant, the world’s largest, shut for safety checks since an earthquake damaged the facility in July.
”Utilities apparently boosted coal procurement in January to meet increased electricity demand for home and office heating,” Atsuo Sagawa, a senior coal analyst at the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan, known as the IEEJ, said in a telephone interview in Tokyo. ”Utilities are operating their coal-fired power plants at full capacity.”
Japan’s crude-oil imports rose for a fourth month in January, by 1 percent to 20.3 million kiloliters, or 4.1 million barrels a day. By value, oil imports jumped 41 percent to 1.28 trillion yen ($11.8 billion) as global benchmark prices jumped.
Imports of liquefied natural gas increased 0.2 percent to 5.9 million metric tons, according to the trade report. LNG is natural gas that’s been chilled into liquid for transportation by ship.
In January, Japan lowered purchases of oil products including gasoline components and naphtha by 17 percent. Imports of liquefied petroleum gas increased 6.1 percent to 1.34 million tons.
In September, coal imports surged 14.5 percent.

Najjaču trgovačku flotu trenutačno ima Tankerska plovidba – 14 brodova nosivosti 1.190.559 DWT-a, slijedi Atlantska plovidba – 20 brodova nosivosti 799.954 DWT-a, Uljanik plovidba – šest brodova (303.421 DWT-a), Jadroplov sedam brodova (266.879 DWT-a), Lošinjska plovidba – Brodarstvo 11 brodova (230.899 DWT-a).
Tankerska plovidba ima devet brodova pod stranom zastavom, Brodospas sedam, Lošinjska plovidba – Brodarstvo pet, Jadroplov tri, Atlantska plovidba dva i Uljanik plovidba jedan brod.

Nije loša situacija za ULPL , JDPL i handy dio ATPL : Serenity 1 (53,688 dwt, 14.7L(A), 2006-built) delivery Surabaya 6-17 Mar, redelivery worldwide, 1 year, $59,250 daily.

Misljenja?

Ne dajte zlovencima more jer ode u 3pm: terminal, plinovod, petrokemija, janaf, polimeri, brodogradnja, poljoprivreda itd itd

Korea’s Might&Main considering Croatian shipyard purchase
Thursday, 21.02.2008, 12:19am (GMT)

A Korean company Might&Main has shown interest in buying two Croatian shipyards in the northern Adriatic. The company has sent its representatives to request additional information on the state-owned 3. maj shipyard in the port of Rijeka and Kraljevica shipyard.
Damir Polancec, Croatian vice-president and minister for the economy, confirmed the interest from the Koreans and told Croatian daily newspaper Novi List that it was proof of the “…potential of Croatian shipyards despite the difficulties they currently face.” He added that other foreign companies had also expressed interest in acquiring the yards.
The Croatian Privatisation Fund owns both shipyards and under local legislation can allow the Koreans to check their accounts and conduct due diligence only as part of a public tender. However, no tender for either of the shipyards has been announced as yet.
The Croatian government has embarked on a far-reaching restructuring programme of the six state-owned shipyards, which it is implementing as part of an agreement with the EU. They are all scheduled for privatisation by 2011.
