Ashrak, evo najnovijeg materijala za Najdrazeg Vodju:
(a tumpleci nek i dalje postaju stanje drysa [lol] )
India’s iron-ore exports in November rose from the previous month as China, the world’s biggest buyer of the steelmaking raw material, increased purchases. Shipments were 8.74 million tons compared with 4.14 million tons in October, the Federation of Indian Mineral Industries, a group of iron-ore miners, said in a statement today. Chinese mills are buying more from India because they want suppliers such as BHP Billiton Ltd. and Rio Tinto Group to cut prices, said R.K. Sharma, secretary general of the association.
“This is a way of putting pressure on Rio and BHP,” he said by telephone from New Delhi.
China may ask Rio Tinto and rivals to accept an 82 percent price cut after steel prices fell to 1994 levels, Shan Shanghua, secretary in general of the China Iron and Steel Association, said earlier this month.
Still, total exports in November were lower than last year’s 10.16 million tons, the association said.
India produced 160 million tons of iron ore in the year ended March 31. Two-thirds of the output was sold to China, according to the group.

GE Shipping cancels two Supramax newbuild contracts
Friday, 09 January 2009
Great Eastern Shipping Corporation (GE Shipping) yesterday announced that it has cancelled orders for the construction of two Supramax bulk carriers. The vessels, slated to have been about 57,000dwt each in capacity, had been on order with an unnamed Chinese shipyard. The Mumbai-headquartered company has attributed the cancellations to the current “highly uncertain business environment.”
Despite these cancellations, the company is expected to take delivery of 10 newbuilds over the next three years as part of its fleet renewal programme. GE Shipping’s current fleet stands at 41 vessels, comprising 32 tankers and nine drybulk carriers with an average age of 9.7 years.

Saudi Oil Supertanker Released by Somali Pirates, AFP Reports
Jan. 9 (Bloomberg) — The Saudi Arabian oil supertanker Sirius Star has been released by the Somali pirates who hijacked it in November in the Indian Ocean, Agence France-Presse said, citing the leader of the pirates, Mohamed Said.
“All our people have now left the Sirius Star,” AFP cited Said as saying today in a phone interview from the pirates’ stronghold in the Somali town of Harardhere. “The ship is free, the crew is free.”
The tanker is in the fleet of Saudi Arabia’s state-owned Vela International Ltd. and was carrying 2 million barrels of crude. It was hijacked Nov. 15 about 420 nautical miles (780 kilometers) off Somalia and was carrying 25 crew members from Britain, Poland, Croatia and Saudi Arabia.
An official representing Vela International declined to comment or be identified by name when contacted by Bloomberg News.

Ovo je vrlo dobro,očekuje se da će do kraja godine 10% ukupne tonaže drybulkera zavšiti u rezalištima
Tonnage supply to be limited further by scrap deals
Thursday, 15 January 2009
With the Baltic Dry Index posting a sustainable rise from the first days of the New Year, a restrained optimism has returned in the market, with the influence of various scrap deals not appreciated as much. Owners have returned to scrap yards by the dozens, eager to sell their older dry bulk carriers, now posting losses as opposed to hefty earnings up to six months ago. According to figures compiled by George Moundreas & Co. the average weekly volumes of dry bulk tonnage that left the market for scrap was increased at 600,000 dwt, versus 400,000-500,00 during the previous weeks.Further to that, the broker reports that negotiations are currently taking place for the scrapping of at least 157 vessels with a capacity of a stunning 5.5 million dwt. This could mean that by the end of 2009 a “healthy” 10 percent of the global dry bulk tonnage may have exited the market. At the same time, what’s rather encouraging is that scrap prices remain at a healthy $250-275/ldt. Of course, reports for the demolition market have indicated, with reference at breakers in the Indian subcontinent, that these prices will somewhat soften. Nevertheless, India seems to be buying tonnage more aggressively than any other at the moment, while China is hovering between $215-220 per ldt. The swift response of ship owners to current market conditions has helped alleviate the supply/demand balance which at the moment favors those standing from the “demand’s” point of view.
Some figures compiled by Drewry Shipping Insight are rather helpful to see the amount of ships flocking demolition sites around the world. The dreadful market conditions of 2008 brought the biggest number of bulk carriers to scrap yards in three years. According to Drewry, a total of 2,704 ships were demolished up until the end of November. In fact all of these ships were sold for scrap from August onwards, since up to then zero vessels had left the market. Only in November a total of 2,075 ships were sold for scrap, a number equal to the combined number of vessels headed for demolition during the years 2006 and 2007! But it is the comparison between 2008 and 2007 that is even more impressive. During 2007 a mere 374 dry bulk carriers were retired and sold for scrap with many months showing no activity whatsoever.
