Panamax Ship Rates May Stay Near Record After Newcastle Delays
The cost of hiring Panamax ships, or vessels that can move 70,000 metric tons of coal and other goods, may stay near a record after Australia’s Newcastle port halted loading for as long as eight hours today on concern about a potential explosion, delaying five coal ships.

Both returned to normal at 2 p.m. as firemen ended an exclusion zone. Five coal ships and one general cargo vessel were delayed, said Keith Powell, a spokesman for Newcastle Port Corp.
“It’s not going to help,” stem the rate rise, said Anders Boye, a shipbroker at
Simpson Spence & Young in Singapore, by phone. The effect may be limited given the hours that Newcastle operations were halted, he said.
A leak of hydraulic oil from a malfunctioning crane onto bags containing ammonium nitrate on board the Priam vessel led to the exclusion zone being set up in the area, said Craig Brierley, a spokesman for the New South Wales Fire Brigades.
Port Waratah Coal Services said it aims to make up for lost time during the week. “At this stage, initial planning tells us that we can,” said Davidson.

Ono što mene najviše veseli, osim indexa koji raste i raste, je to što svi veći analitičari
predviđaju da će taj rast biti stalan u godinama koje dolaze.
Potražnja za rasutim teretom je velika zbog zahtjevnog kineskog i indijskog tržišta i neće jenjavati,
a Atlantska je svojim izborom te timingom obnove flote pokazala da ide ukorak sa trendovima,
te dokazala da njeni dioničari mogu mirno spavati.
Procjenjuje se da u sljedećim godinama ne treba očekivati nikakve turbulentnosti tržišta,
bar što se tiče dry bulk segmenta koji je Atlantskoj osnovni segment,
te se za inače “nervozan” brodarski sektor predviđa mirno more.
Dokup prije polugodišnjeg, ali treba otvoriti novčanike kud ovo ode. Prognoziram da će dosegnuti 2000 prije polugodišnjeg jer su kupci navalili i ne pitaju puno za cijenu.
