Capesize and panamax markets slow
Activity in the capesize and panamax markets came to a standstill at the end of last week, as Easter holiday celebrations in Europe kept trading levels low.
“It’s very quiet — brokers have either taken the opportunity to go on holiday or travel to see clients in China,” said one Hong Kong broker.
Despite lacklustre market sentiment pushing capesize and panamax rates down last week, capesize and panamax owners still in the market received an unexpected lift as competition decreased.
“Capesize and panamax owners got a fillip at the end of last week, but I’m not sure it’s going to last,” said the broker.
He noted that the Baltic Exchange average time charter rate for capesize vessels had risen to around $18,000 per day by the end of last week.
Similarly, he said, the panamax average time charter index experienced a slight rebound on Thursday and the index rose to $9,150 per day.
“I have more confidence in capes continuing to rise than Pacific panamax rates,” he said.
He pointed out that in the capesize sector there was an ongoing shortage of fronthaul tonnage, which had pushed rates close to $31,000 per day, while rates for a transatlantic round trip had also gained ground, rising by more than $1,000 in a week to about $17,500.
“I can see fronthaul rates rising a bit more, maybe to $35,000 per day, while transatlantic rates are marching towards $20,000 per day,” the broker said.
He added: “By comparison, there is not much to buoy Pacific panamax rates. The rise in rates seen in the latter part of last week was more of a technical correction than any significant change in market fundamentals.”
The broker added that Pacific panamax rates for a fronthaul voyage closed at around $16,800 per day last week, a $500 increase on the week.
Rates for a Pacific round voyage gained marginally but still lost about $600 over the week, closing at just over $6,700 per day.
A Shanghai-based broker thought the capesize and panamax markets would have to wait for a series of price negotiations to be settled before there was a clear direction in either sector.
“Capesize owners are obviously waiting for Chinese mills to agree new pricing levels with Australian and Brazilian iron ore producers.
“Equally, panamax owners are keen to see a deal between Chinese coal miners and Japanese power utilities.”
New pricing agreements were due to start on April 1, but negotiations on iron ore and coal have stalled, the broker added.

Nije problem u usporedbi brodara s vanjskim pokazateljima, već i unutarnja raspodjela brodara. Eto, na "usporedbi brodara" ATPL je sugerirana kao najgluplja kupnja, gubitaš, pripadnik luzerskog podsektora, a kao zvjezdani favoriti navađani su TNPL i JDPL. Kao ono, analize, pokazatelji, trendovi- sve od prekaljenih poznavatelja sektora.
Čak i tebi Techmane, bez uvrijede, šteta da ti slučajno nije uletilo više dijonica ATPL a 🙂

Izašao sam sa jučer kupljenim.Hvala čovjeku koji mi je omogućio da izađem vani bez gubitka.
Ipak to nije sport za mene.

Bolje ta strategija nego da pricam bajke o brodarskom sektoru i kako motori rade i na kojem broju okretaja. [cool]
Inace ako ce BDI rasti rasti ce i ATPL bar je do sada tako bilo.Obicno pocnem pisati na vrijeme tako da svi koji hoce izaci mogu i izaci i to sa dobrim zaradama.
Pametnima dosta.
po ovome bi se dalo zakljuciti da bi bas sad trebalo izaci iz ATPL jer si poceo pisati….
