In November, New York–based Genco Shipping and Trading willingly agreed to say adios to a $53 million deposit simply to get out of a half-a-billion-dollar deal to buy six new vessels. Clarkson Plc, the world’s largest shipbroker, announced that while 378 ships were ordered during October 2007, only 37 were ordered in October 2008. And back in Greece Kriton Lendoudis, managing director of Athens-based Evalend Shipping Co., estimates that in Greece there are currently some 100 applications by shipowners to lay up their vessels. Lendoudis concludes, The next 24 months do not look very optimistic. It’s hard to disagree.

DryShips breaches $750m in loan covenants

NASDAQ-listed DryShips says that it has breached loan convenants on $751.8m in debts.
Greek shipowner DryShips said in Security and Exchange Commission filing that it had breached “certain financial convenants” on loans two of its leading banks with which it has $751.8m in debt as of the end of 2008.
The company added that it was in communication with another lender over convenants breaches on $650m of loans.
With the huge drop in the prices of dry bulk vessels many owners are potentially in breach of loan covenants.
“Currently, we are in discussions with these and other lenders for waivers and amendment of certain financial and other covenants contained in our loan agreements. There can be no assurance that we will be successful in obtaining such waivers and amendments,” DryShips said.
The company revealed the loan convenant breaches in a filing for a $500m equity offering.
“We may be required to use a significant portion of the net proceeds from this offering to repay a portion of our outstanding indebtedness,” it warned.

Gledam brodare vanka i nekako razmišljam….

zašto bi se eventualni bankrot DRYS-a negativno odrazio na ostale brodare ako BDI lijepo raste i Panamci se oporavljaju? Ode jedna konkurencija i ostali bi trebali biti zadovoljni sa time.
Pogotovo ako imaju love i lagano se šprdaju sa kojekakvim padavičarima koji u ovim vremenima dišu na škrge. Kao recimo naša ATPL-HA-HA.
