Tuesday 28 February 2012 | 13:28 CET

Vodafone Hungary and retailer Tesco will launch a new mobile telecoms service on 1 March, according to Dow Jones Newswires citing an announcement made by the companies. Tesco Mobile is evenly owned by the two fo¬unding companies and is entering the market as a MVNO. Tesco Mobile’s business strategy is aimed primarily at the customer base of the Tesco retail chain, which already has 1.5 million loyalty cards in circulation in Hungary, according to CEO of Tesco Mobile Peter Reszketo. Tesco Mobile was established with a core capital of HUF 200 million (USD 928,721), but additional investments are planned by both owners as the company expands, Reszketo added. Initially, the service only features pre-paid packages and is an adaptation of a model that has already been successfully introduced on Tesco’s markets in the UK, Ireland and Slovakia, Vodafone Hungary president Gyorgy Beck said. At a later stage, the company plans to offer the full range of services known to the mobile telecoms market, including postpay, Reszketo added.
